Overview:

  • A dim view of history (How did we get here)

    • Why do I care?
  • “LED” isn’t a dimming type? (Common Dimming Types/Terminology)
    • It just says “dimmable.” It’s probably phase-dimming… right? (Line Voltage)
      • Switching (yes, it’s a control type)
      • Forward phase
        • Triac/MLV/Phase Cut/Leading Edge
      • Reverse phase
        • ELV/Trailing Edge
    • I’m not confused yet, also, mine has extra wires (Low voltage)
      • Analog –
        • 0-10V
        • But it’s FREEEE! (What to ask/what to note)
      • Digital –
        • DALI
          • What’s your type? (Variants and spinoffs)

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Sam Myers entered the lighting control industry in 2015, joining Lutron, after leaving the United States Submarine Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. At Lutron, Sam helped launch a new wireless lighting control system focused on simplicity and code compliance. As a leader in Lutron’s QTS Program, Sam managed quality, training and service for Lutron Vive. During this time, Sam found a passion for teaching and training, working closely with Union Apprenticeship Training Centers to train our next generation of Electrical Contractors on lighting controls. Over the years, Sam has coordinated training at Lighting Design Labs in Seattle, the PG&E Energy Center in San Francisco, the Electrical Training Institute in Commerce, and has been a repeat presenter for IES Fundamentals of Lighting courses here in Orange County.
